Tap the bars, hear them ring.

Two octaves of bright tuned bars from C to C, coloured like a classroom xylophone so children can follow along. Switch on the chromatic layout for every sharp and flat, or swap the sound for a warm marimba, a sparkling glockenspiel or a shimmering vibraphone.

Play with your keyboard

The bottom letter row plays the lower octave and the row above plays the higher one. Each bar shows its key, so you can read a song's letters and play straight away.

Four mallet instruments in one

Xylophone
Hard rosewood bars with a short, bright, woody tone that cuts through. Sounds an octave above written pitch, like the real thing.
Marimba
Wider bars and tuned resonators give a deep, round, mellow tone that rings longer.
Glockenspiel
Steel bars that sparkle two octaves up — the bell sound of orchestras and music boxes.
Vibraphone
Aluminium bars with a slow tremolo, the cool sound of jazz. Notes ring while you hold them.

Questions

Is the online xylophone good for kids?

Yes. The rainbow colours follow the same note colours used in many classrooms, the bars are big enough for small fingers, and there are no ads or sign-ups.

What is the difference between a xylophone and a glockenspiel?

A xylophone has wooden bars with a short, dry sound. A glockenspiel has metal bars with a bright, bell-like sound that rings for longer. You can switch between both here.

Can I play sharps and flats?

Yes. Open Settings and choose the chromatic layout to add the sharp and flat bars above the natural ones, just like the black keys of a piano.
